 –   hauteur ?
Mr Roy Porter..

First thing first, your name sounds like a "fat kids"...That aside, I would like to put forward the following.

I was just reading your review on the back of the Neil Schaeffer book "The Marquis de Sade" and I came across a word I had never heard before...hauteur ...

Did you make this word up?

Who do you think you are? I wasted my time looking up the word so I thought I may aswell waste time looking up your website or email address and tell you what I think about your pretentious and even "try hard" wording.

It's as if you have had one minute to cram in all your great wording and English expertise into two sentences, so you thought you would use the word "hauteur" because noone else knows that word and the reader will think you are clever because they have to go to a dictioary or even "dictionary.com" to see what your new, and I'm most probably sure FAVOURITE word translates to in English..

all this aside, happy happy to be the first person to penetrate you and your website, I'll look out for one of your books now because of this happening. It's a subtle but original marketting ploy for your work.

All the best big dog..

What kind of ignoramous loudly crows about his/her lack of knowledge of a pretty commonplace word, rather than shutting up, learning something new and being grateful? For your information, Roy Porter was one of the best medical historians of this century and your hideous resort to personal abuse just emphasises your ignorance of this fact, as well as your own very limited vocabulary. The 'pride in ignorance': unfortunately a common cultural trait for badly educated but pushy people these days...

seeing that you are so quick to criticize and ridicule someone's work simply on the fact that they used a word you don't understand seems a bit ironic. The word hauteur means snobbish and scornfully arrogant, which is exactly what you are mr. "big dog". How much time did it take and arrogant scum bag like yourself to figure out the word?

 –   hauter
hauter means arrogant-

example: you show to much hauter to a person who is clearly more intelligent than you, and has read at least one book.
